Abstract

The prevalence of suicide rate is relatively higher among the youths in India as compared to other countries. However, limited studies could examine the prevalence of suicide rate and its leading factors among the youths in India. This chapter, therefore, explains the suicide rate of youths and its causing factors in India using a systematic literature review of previous studies. The statistical results showed that suicide has contributed to 12% of total deaths in the total population of India. It is also noticed that suicide cases have increased two times more among the male population in India in last five years. More comprehensive and inclusive data would be helpful for analyses and the development of suicide prevention measures in India. This chapter provides a significant scope for further research in the area of the suicide rate of youth and its causing factors in India.
