Abstract

Due to AI, libraries have changed operations and user service swiftly. AI is becoming more important in education and research. Organizational improvements have enhanced product quality, consumer behavior prediction, inventory management, and AI data analysis. Mobile phones and search engines employ AI. Libraries may become big data hubs, analyze data, and provide remote access. Ability-enhancing AI is employed. Libraries read books and other materials to visually challenged persons using AI-driven text-to-speech technology. Library staff can focus on research because AI can perform regular chores. This chapter describes AI-assisted library administration. Most science fiction and movies include intelligent machines. AI is now commonplace. Several sectors need automation prep. Library AI development is slower than other institutions. Schools increasingly include it in their programs. Library AI development is studied. Librarians' automation-era potential and problems must be considered. This chapter covers librarianship's many obligations and opportunities.

Introduction

The domain of artificial intelligence (AI) has attracted considerable interest from both the general populace and the academic library community owing to its notable technological progress. Given the early stage of research and public adoption of this technology, there is an opportunity to examine a representative sample of librarians in order to explore their perspectives on artificial intelligence using the Diffusion of Innovations model. As of now, there exists a dearth of scientific publications within the subject of library and information science (LIS) that have undertaken a study of comparable scale and scope. The performance of such an analysis has the potential to provide useful information pertaining to the diffusion of innovations theory and the attitudes exhibited by academic library workers towards artificial intelligence (AI) within a wider framework. The findings of this study may prove advantageous for academic library directors and technologically inclined personnel aiming to enhance the adoption and utilization of artificial intelligence (AI) technology inside their respective libraries.

Libraries presently function within a dynamic milieu that is characterized by ongoing fluctuations. Users face a multitude of complex obstacles, including the exponential expansion of information, the transformative impact of information technology, the continuous development of networks, constrained financial resources, escalating document costs, heightened user expectations, and the diverse array of information resources accessible in different media formats. The field of Information Technology (IT) offers a wide range of opportunities that hold promise for addressing substantial challenges. The rapid advancement of modern technology has greatly improved the capabilities of storing, processing, retrieving, repackaging, communicating, sharing, and managing the huge growth of information in libraries, leading to improved effectiveness and cost-efficiency. The incorporation of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) within libraries has become a crucial necessity in the present era, which is marked by an abundance of information and the advent of numerous new technologies. The integration of various systems and technologies is necessary in order to adequately address the dynamic and complex information needs of library patrons. Libraries have used information technology (IT) in a comprehensive manner, particularly focusing on computer technology, to enhance efficiency in many administrative and technical processes. The aforementioned advancements encompass the evolution of databases, online public access catalogues (OPACs), and networks, all of which collectively contribute to the augmentation of services provided to library consumers. The adoption and integration of information and communication technology (ICT) in diverse library environments have witnessed significant expansion in recent years, resulting in improved techniques for managing information. The widespread adoption and integration of information and communication technology (ICT) within libraries has had a profound impact on all aspects of the modern library environment. The incorporation of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) within libraries undeniably presents a substantial advantage to our society. However, in order to attain success, the effective implementation of this system requires the steadfast dedication of librarians, as the human resource element plays a crucial role. The development of a favourable mindset among library personnel toward the integration of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) is of utmost importance. The domain of technology, which encompasses both computer hardware and software, is distinguished by its rapid rate of development, resulting in the swift obsolescence of contemporary knowledge. It is imperative for librarians to be abreast of evolving technological breakthroughs. To keep pace with and adapt to technology changes, humans must continually engage in educational endeavours to learn new skills. Librarians frequently experience a range of obstacles that are commonly referred to as technical stress or techno tress, as described in numerous instances.
