Abstract

This comprehensive bibliometric research delves into global interdisciplinary studies, exploring leadership, technology integration, finance, and sustainability. Investigating diverse topics, including total quality management challenges in Malaysian SMEs, geopolitical influences on eService adoption, and leadership dynamics in culturally diverse tech projects, the narrative extends to broader domains such as financial literacy, UK construction post COVID-19, and sustainable practices in contaminated campus areas. The review evaluates senior IT leadership's impact, virtual clinic lessons post COVID-19, global business knowledge management challenges, and safety data ecosystems using analytics, synthesizing insights from 54 papers. Concluding with a bibliometric analysis, the research provides a panoramic view of evolving research trends from 1989 to 2023, enhancing understanding across disciplines.

1. Introduction

1.1 Background and Rationale

In the contemporary landscape where technology is inseparable from our daily lives, this bibliographic study aims to deepen our comprehension of the intricate relationship between leadership and technology integration (Bennett & Mayouf, 2021). As technology becomes intertwined with various facets of our existence, its assimilation into leadership practices and organizational frameworks introduces a distinctive set of challenges (Barker, 2021). By meticulously examining key research papers and scholarly works, this study strives to identify recurring challenges encountered by leaders navigating the integration of technology (Zhao & Liu, 2018). Moreover, it endeavors to unravel the managerial strategies employed to effectively address these challenges (Scribante, Pretorius, & Benade, 2017).

Aligned with the objectives of the bibliographic study, our research seeks to contribute to this discourse by synthesizing insights from a diverse array of sources (Bueno, Günther, & Philippi, 2017). By exploring themes such as leadership in the digital age, technology adoption, change management, and the influence of technology on leadership styles and organizational culture, our study aligns with the comprehensive overview provided by the bibliographic analysis (Mohannak & Matthews, 2015). Through this intellectual exploration, we aspire to offer valuable insights that can empower leaders, managers, and researchers in optimizing technology within organizational contexts (Tester, Nicewicz, & Oswalt, 2021). This research endeavors to extend the foundation laid by the bibliographic study, propelling future research endeavors aimed at refining and enhancing leadership practices in our dynamic technological landscape (Yasmeen et al., 2020).

1.2 Research Question

Is there a substantial corpus of academic literature exploring the challenges and management issues in the intersection of leadership and technology integration, and what insights can be gleaned from a bibliometric analysis of this literature to uncover prevalent themes, document trends, collaborative networks, geographic distribution, and emerging directions in research?

1.3 Advancing the Knowledge Frontier

As technology continues to evolve, its integration with leadership practices propels organizations into uncharted territories (Tester et al., 2021). This research endeavors to advance the knowledge frontier by systematically reviewing and synthesizing the existing literature, offering a comprehensive understanding of the intricate dynamics at the confluence of leadership and technology integration.

1.4 Pioneering Fresh Perspectives and Insights

By employing bibliometric analysis, this research seeks to pioneer fresh perspectives and insights (Bennett & Mayouf, 2021), contributing to the existing body of knowledge. The synthesis of scholarly contributions will not only inform current understanding but also provide a foundation for future research endeavors in this critical area.

2. Research Methodology

The research methodology involved a comprehensive search on Scopus using a systematic approach to assess literature on leadership, technology integration, and management challenges. The initial search, “leadership AND technology AND integration AND management,” yielded 686 documents. Further refinement with a focus on challenges resulted in 162 documents. A stringent search within specific subject areas and language constraints narrowed it down to 54 documents in Business, Sociology, and Arts. Inclusion criteria ensured the selection of English publications, aligning with the research objectives, while ethical considerations were paramount throughout the process. Employing Biblioshiny and VOS-viewer for data analysis added a quantitative dimension, facilitating insights into collaborative networks, geographic distribution, and emerging trends. This methodology provides a robust foundation for analyzing challenges and management issues at the intersection of leadership and technology integration.
