Editor/Author Biographies

Debra N. Weiss-Randall, EdD, MA, CHES, is a Guest Lecturer at Florida Atlantic University and a Consultant at Florida International University; she previously taught at the City University of New York and SUNY Purchase for 16 years. She is certified to design and teach online courses. Dr. Weiss-Randall holds a Masters’ degree (2007) and Doctorate (2010) in Health Education from Teachers’ College, Columbia University, and is a Certified Health Education Consultant. Her doctoral research was a statewide study of asthma management on New York college campuses. She replicated her findings with a team from Texas State University and won a national award. In 2016, Dr. Weiss-Randall served as Project Manager for an environmental justice grant from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Two vulnerable coastal communities were surveyed about perceived risk and impacts from sea level rise.

Dr. Weiss-Randall also is the director of the Debra Weiss Dance Company (DWDC), a not-for-profit

organization known for its programs for underserved audiences. From 1993 to 2004, DWDC ran Nyack Arts Exposure (NAE), an afterschool and summer dance program for at-risk youth that used the performing arts as an avenue for enhancing health and keeping youth drug-free. In 2017, Dr. Weiss-Randall received a grant to start afterschool dance programs for at-risk youth in Boca Raton.
