Description & Coverage
Description:

1. Overview of the Publication

"Beyond Oil and Sand" delves into the distinctive developmental paths of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries compared to their Middle Eastern neighbors. This comparative analysis explores the multifaceted aspects of economic, social, and political development that have influenced and shaped the region over recent decades. By examining the influence of oil wealth, geopolitical dynamics, and historical legacies, the book offers a comprehensive understanding of why these nations have evolved so differently despite geographical proximity and cultural ties.

The narrative begins by setting a historical context, outlining the foundational economic and political structures of the GCC and other Middle Eastern countries. Subsequent chapters analyze key sectors such as energy, finance, education, and technology, highlighting how the GCC countries have leveraged their hydrocarbon wealth to build modern state infrastructures and diversified economies, in contrast to the varied developmental challenges faced by their neighbors.

This publication will also critically assess the role of international relations and domestic policies in shaping economic outcomes, with a particular focus on how governance and institutional development have diverged across these regions. The analysis will be enriched with case studies, interviews with policymakers, and empirical data to provide a detailed panorama of the developmental disparities. "Beyond Oil and Sand" aims to offer academics, policymakers, and interested general readers an in-depth understanding of the developmental dynamics in the Middle East, providing insights into future opportunities and challenges faced by the region. This book will not only contribute to academic discourse but also inform policy formulations and investment strategies within and beyond the Middle East.
