Description & Coverage
Description:

Substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) technology is a twenty-first century transmission line that has evolved recently to open new doors to the development of efficient circuits and devices operating in the microwave and millimeter-wave frequency range. Microstrip circuits and devices are inefficient at high frequency applications and require very stringent manufacturing tolerances when used to implement microwave and millimeter-wave components. This is as a result of the fact that wavelengths are short at higher frequencies. Waveguide circuits and devices are preferred for higher frequency applications, but they are expensive and difficult to manufacture. It is also very challenging to integrate a waveguide device with planar devices in its vicinity. The SIW bridges the gap between the traditional air-filled waveguide and planar transmission lines such as microstrip.

Practical Approach to Substrate Integrated Waveguide (SIW) Diplexer: Emerging Research and Opportunities is an essential reference source that discusses the development of efficient circuits and devices operating in the microwave and millimeter-wave frequency range through the use of substrate integrated waveguides. Featuring research on topics such as microstrip resonators, circuit model analysis, and quality factor extraction, this book is ideally designed for researchers, engineers, scientists, developers, scholars, practitioners, educators, policymakers, and students.

Editor/Author Biographies

Augustine Onyenwe Nwajana is a Lecturer (Assistant Professor) in Electronic Engineering at the University of Greenwich. He received a research CPD certificate in Practical Antenna Design: from Theory to Practice, from the University of Oxford, in 2019; and a PhD in Electrical and Electronic Engineering, from the University of East London, in 2017. His current research interest is in the analysis and design of RF and microwave devices (including filters, multiplexers, power dividers, antennas, etc.) for modern communication systems. He was a Telecommunications Engineer at Siemens AG, for 4 years (2005 to 2009). He started his teaching career in 2009 after completing a teaching placement programme sponsored by the UK government. He has worked as Lecturer and Senior Lecturer at a number of UK institutions for over 10 years. He holds memberships of both the Institution of Engineering & Technology (IET), and the Institute of Electrical & Electronics Engineers (IEEE). He is also a Fellow of the UK Higher Education Academy (FHEA). He was a recipient of the Federal Government of Nigeria Scholarship Award.

Kenneth Siok Kiam Yeo received the B.Eng. (Hons) degree in Electronic and Communication Engineering and Ph.D. degree in Electronic and Electrical Engineering from the University of Birmingham in 1996 and 2000, respectively, and the PG Cert. in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education from University of East London in 2010. After graduating from his Ph.D. degree, he continued to work with the University of Birmingham as a Research Fellow investigating into novel passive microwave designs. In 2004 to 2006, he was a Principal RF Engineer with CryoSystems Ltd. UK where he headed the RF development of the company in developing cryogenic tower mount amplifier for mobile communication base station. He returned to the University of Birmingham in early 2007 to re-establish his academic career. In 2008 to 2018, he worked with the University of East London as a Senior Lecturer in Electronic and Telecommunications. In 2016 and 2017, he also served as a Visiting Professor at Hangzhou Dianzi University, China. He is currently a Senior Assistant Professor in Wireless and Mobile Communication at Universiti Teknologi Brunei. He is professionally qualified as a Chartered Engineer with the Institution of Engineering & Technology (IET) and Engineering Council UK. He is also a Fellow of the UK Higher Education Academy (FHEA). His current research interests include novel microwave design technique, microwave filter and multiplexer, and Substrate Integrated Waveguide (SIW) design.
