Description & Coverage
Description:

The goal of this book is to use expert Artificial Neural Network (ANN) to solve various science and engineering application problems and discusses current developments in solving complicated engineering problems that cannot be solved using traditional methods. The intension of the proposed book is to give an idea to the reader about the ANN, machine learning (ML) and deep learning (DL) methods for the data of hybrid nanofluids thermophysical properties, heat transfer in heat exchangers, solar powered (CSP) flash desalination, reverse osmosis desalination, biodegradability of pollutants in saline water, emerging pollutants, solid waste management, pavement materials, concrete technology, and audio spoof classification. Apart from the topics the book also covers the various ANN, ML and DL algorithms (codes) for various applications.

The aim of this textbook is to provide a complete understanding of the Artificial Neural Networks for Engineering practices discusses current developments in solving complicated engineering problems that cannot be solved using traditional methods. The approaches proposed can be used for modeling, pattern recognition, classification, forecasting, estimating, and other tasks. Readers will discover various methodologies for solving problems such as complex nonlinear systems, cellular computational networks, wastewater treatment, cyber-physical system attack detection, mechanical systems, electrical systems, biomechanical and biomedical systems, time series forecasting, biofuels, and more.

He has more than 110 publications to his credit in journals and conferences of international repute and supervised 2 PhD research works with another 2 on-going. He is the top 100 thousand or in the top 2 per cent of the most cited researchers in the world throughout their career and in their scientific field, according to a Stanford University study signed by the team led by John P.A. Ioannidis.

Deepanraj Balakrishnan is currently working as Research Faculty in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, College of Engineering at Prince Mohammad Bin Fahd University, Saudi Arabia. Dr. Deepanraj received his Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and Master’s Degree in Thermal Engineering from Anna University, Chennai and Ph.D degree in Mechanical Engineering from National Institute of Technology, Calicut. He also completed his MBA in Energy Management from Jaipur National University. He has more than10 years of working experience, which include both teaching and research. Dr. Deepanraj has published more than 100 research articles in peer reviewed international journals and conferences and holds 2 Indian patent. He is serving as guest editor, editorial board member and reviewer for many international peer reviewed journals including well known publishers like Elsevier, Springer and Inderscience. His area of interest includes Renewable Energy Utilization; Energy Conservation and Waste Management with special focus on Bio-Energy.

Dr. Antonio C. M. Sousa is a Professor Emeritus of University of New Brunswick (Canada) and he is currently a Principal Investigator of TEMA, the R&D Unit of the Department of Mechanical Engineering at University of Aveiro (Portugal), and an Invited Full Professor of this department. He received his MSc and PhD in Mechanical Engineering (Thermal-Fluids) from the Victoria University of Manchester (UMIST), England, UK, in 1974 and 1977, respectively. Prior to his graduate studies he had three years of academic and industrial activity. He joined the Department of Mechanical Engineering, University of Brasília, Brazil soon after the award of his PhD degree, first as Associate Professor and Director of Graduate Studies and later on as Acting Chair. Late in 1977, he moved, as Senior Engineer and Head of the Thermal-Fluids Division of the Fuel Department, to the Brazilian Nuclear Companies, SA, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He participated in the First Fuel Reload Project of Angra I Westinghouse 600 MWe PWR. After the project was successfully completed in 1980, he took an Associate Professorship with the Department of Mechanical Engineering, University of New Brunswick (UNB); in 1985 he was promoted to Full Professor. In 2010 he retired from University of New Brunswick and he became a Full Professor at University of Aveiro on a full-time basis and from 2011 to 2015 he served as Director of the Department of Mechanical Engineering. From 2016 on, he has maintained close collaboration with the Guangzhou Institute of Energy Conversion – Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), while remaining a member of TEMA. At CAS, from May 1, 2017 to April 30, 2018, he was Presidential Initiative Fellow and Visiting Professor, Guangzhou Institute of Energy Conversion, Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), and since then Senior Consultant. In addition to the positions already mentioned, he was Director - Coordinator, Centre of Extension Studies, University of Macao (01/1995 -12/1996), and Member, Board of Directors, Centre for Productivity and Technology Transfer of Macao (05/1996 - 09/1998).
