Description, Impact, & Audience

Infections of the central nervous system (CNS) are a leading cause of mortality in low- and middle-income countries. One Indian study identified that CNS tuberculosis is the most prevalent cause (51.5%), followed by viral meningoencephalitis (13.9%). Human immunodeficiency virus (11.0%) and diabetes mellitus (6.2%) remained the usual predisposing conditions. A mortality rate of 27.9%, has been found. Despite the high incidence and considerable morbidity and mortality in low- and middle-income countries, data are scarce on the cumulative epidemiology of infections of the CNS. Systematic review and meta-analysis approximates the global incidence of neurosurgically relevant infectious diseases and underscore the disproportionate burden of CNS infections in the developing world, where there is a tremendous demand to focus on the above mentioned diseases. Hence, this book proposal is aimed to focus on common prevalent neurological infectious diseases and their pathology, biomarkers, diagnosis, and therapy.

Impact

• This book provides comprehensive and up-to-date information of CNS infectious diseases. • Readers will be able to understand neurological problems associated with common infections. • Probably this is the first book that establishes a link among infections, brain injury, neuro-cognitive and behavioural manifestations, biomarkers and therapeutic strategies. List 5-6 subject related keywords • Infectious agents, nervous system linked diseases, Cytokine storm; biomarkers, neurological disabilities, neurotransmitters, therapeutics.

Target Audience

The book is targeting UG and PG students and research scholars of neuroscience, medical students and practioners, and researchers working in the area of neuroscience and infectious diseases. Probably this is the first book that link infectious disease and neurological diseases.
