Description & Coverage
Description:

This text takes up the relevant and timely question of how do those within the walls of academia respond to unrest outside of the walls. In the wake of social justice uprisings around the country, American institutions began to prioritize diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives. Now, those same initiatives and programs are under fire and review at both private and state institutions. For Black women in academia, we have been engaged in diversity, equity, and inclusion work for the entirety of our careers, so this text asks Black women to speak about those experiences. This text will offer guidance and support for the coming generations of marginalized educators who seek to create safe spaces and offer solidarity to those already within academia to find coalition at the margins. This book will be used by educators across the educational spectrum especially those teaching courses about education, higher education, women's studies, Black women's studies, and American institutions.
