Description & Coverage
Description:

The World Health Organization estimates that 1.3 billion individuals are significantly disabled. This amounts to 16% of the total population of the globe. Every civilized community must work toward giving each individual a means of independent, dignified livelihood. In addition to facing social and economic disadvantages, people with disabilities have even more serious obstacles to mobility and education. This directly affects both their social integration and economic independence. Elderly people and the disabled population respond to environmental requests with passivity, detachment, and solitude. For everyone to be able to live freely and with dignity, mobility, and education are basic rights. Products designed to help compensate for the loss of autonomy experienced by disabled individuals are called assistive technologies. Aging adults can become independent, safe, and successful in their homes, workplaces, and communities with the use of assistive technology tools and services. This edited volume provides a broad as well as in-depth picture of new developments, research outcomes, and impacts in Assistive Technology and Accessibility

Assistive technology is a boom for people with disabilities and the elderly. It helps people to live independent and respectful lives. It includes devices and systems that can assist people with low vision/blindness, learning disabilities, behavioral disorders, hearing impairments, cognitive disabilities, and many more. It assists the elderly population in a wide range of activities such as medication management, fall prevention, home monitoring, and much more. It helps in providing social inclusion to such individuals through technology and empowerment. Through this edited volume, we aim to cover effective assistive technologies through multidisciplinary research to foster growth and learning, promote social involvement, enhance academic achievements, and improve the overall well-being and self-reliance of different-abled people and the elderly. A substantial section of this book will focus on investigating revolutionary assistive approaches utilizing state-of-the-art technologies such as advanced wearable devices, social media networking, health technologies, intelligent mobile apps, artificial intelligence, mobility-oriented assistance, and much more.

This book delves into specific technologies like Augmented Reality (AR), Virtual Reality (VR), and Mixed Reality (MR) which can play a pivotal role in removing bias and provide better opportunities for these people. For instance, AR glasses can help correct color blindness while VR can provide a better-quality television-watching system, called Vision Buddy to help people with low vision. This book will share contemporary assistive tools that can create new channels for students with special needs to bring equality and inclusivity to these students in society. Through this book, we aim to educate medical professionals and caretakers regarding cutting-edge assistive tools and enhance the overall care for people with special needs and the elderly. The other objective of this book is also to identify potential avenues and directions to explore innovative applications and conduct research to cater to the specific requirements of these people. Thus, this book will serve as a means to enhance communication within the assistive technology community to create a collaborative environment that may maximize the impact of assistive technologies by integrating the expertise and perspectives of all stakeholders
