Top1. Introduction
Indian coal mining industries play a vital role in the country’s economic growth. After 1970s, almost all coal mining industries are owned by the government of India. Government of India undertaking coal mines are Signarama Collieries Company Limited (SCCL), Coal India limited and eight subsidiary coal mines which account 95% of national coal production (Mohanty and Goyal, 2010). Indian mining industries have shown rapid growth after 1947. Before 1950, India had 24 types of mineral producers; now it has 90 mineral producers with a projected total value of Rs. 1, 27662 crore which accounting about 2.5% of the GDP of India (Barve and Muduli, 2011). India is among the top five mineral producers in the world.
Coal mining industries are associated with the various activities from coal extraction to transportation at the marketplace. In which some activities are responsible for environmental pollution and health hazardness like extraction of raw material by drilling, blasting, cruising, etc. which create various environmental risks like air pollution, acidic drainage , noise pollution etc. Moreover, establishment of mining industries affect the local peoples which reside near the mining areas (Sinha, 2017). However, Mining industries is the backbone of all types of manufacturing industries and fulfill their requirement like all types of minerals and fossil fuels etc. Addition of this, every countries have limited natural resources therefore, for the sustainable development, fullfill the requirments of present generation without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs (Imperatives, 1987). According to Craynon et al. (2016), for sustainable development need to consider three aspects (social, economic and environmental aspect) in the organization. Moreover, In the developing countries, all the mining industries are trying to implement ISO 14001 certification and greener production approach for the sustainable developments. Coal mining industries are the more polluted and health hazards industries. Therefore, this is the crucial industries for practitioners to identify significante factors to develop strategies towards sustainable developments.
The objective of this work is to Quantifying the strength, weakness, opportunities and threat (SWOT) of coal mines company to develop a suitable strategy to minimize negative environmental impact towards sustainable development. This study helps coal mining strategy managers to minimize the coal waste generation by waste management technique. For this work Hybridizing DEMATEL with Trapezoidal fuzzy and then combining it with SWOT can be a novel tool for determining most important factors of SWOT matrix. This is a novel tool to quantifying the factor of SWOT analysis.
Further, this work is divided into six sections including introduction, second section comprises literature review focusing on the SWOT factors in coal mine industry, third section consists the research methodology, Fourth section comprises application of methodology to quantifying the SWOT factor . In section five discussed the result analysis and section sixth comprises managerial implication whereas in seventh is the conclusion section where concluded the work.
