Somya Rawat

Somya Rawat is from a small village called Tejam, Pithoragarh in Uttarakhand, India. Due to her father's job, she has lived in different cities of India such as Haldwani(Uttarakhand), Lucknow(UP), and Dehradun(Uttarakhand), where she has completed her graduation in BA (Hons.) Psychology from Graphic Era Deemed to be University. Having spent a larger part of her childhood in Haldwani she has been closer to her village roots on the paternal and maternal sides where she felt a lack of mental health awareness, thus she tries to spread awareness about it by engaging in talks with locals and elderly women. Her mother is a homemaker who has spent her youth in the treacherous mountains collecting firewood and hay for the cattle. This adaptability and resilience have been inherited and learned by Somya. Somya’s unique experience with rural and urban parts of society made her realize that the stigma regarding mental health is rampant even amongst the educated classes which takes an even exaggerated form in the latter. Therefore, she intends to work in a bridging gap between common populace and mental health care across class, age and gender and contribute towards the betterment of society.
