Sara El-Metwally

Sara El-Metwally earned her B.S. degree in Computer Science from Mansoura University, Faculty of Computers and Information, Egypt, in 2007, followed by an M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Computer Science from the same institution in 2011 and 2016, respectively. As part of her Ph.D. studies, she conducted research at the University of Southern California, Department of Molecular and Computational Biology, in Los Angeles, USA, as a visiting scholar in the Waterman lab under the Joint Supervision Mission Protocol between Mansoura University and USC. Beginning in 2008, Dr. El-Metwally joined Mansoura University's Computer Science Department as a Teaching Assistant and progressed to the role of Assistant Lecturer in 2011, eventually becoming an Assistant Professor in 2017 and an Associate Professor in 2022. Her research interests encompass Genomics and Transcriptomics Data Analysis, the application of Machine and Deep Learning in Computational Biology and Bioinformatics, as well as solving real-world problems. Dr. Sara has been recognized for her accomplishments, including receiving the Best Doctoral Dissertation Award (2019), GHC Faculty Scholarship (2018), Joint Supervision Mission Scholarship from the Egyptian Ministry of Higher Education (2013), Google EMEA Grace Hopper Travel Grant (2013), and Google Anita Borg Memorial Scholarship (2012). Additionally, she has supervised numerous graduation projects that achieved success in both local and global competitions, such as the Microsoft Imagine Cup (ranked first in Egypt, top 20 teams worldwide: Australia-2012), FCIS Fourth Olympics (ranked first in Egypt: Banha-2020), and FCIS Fifth Olympics (ranked second in Egypt: Helwan-2022).
