Richard Tapping

Richard Tapping completed his Ph.D. in Biochemistry from McMaster University in Canada, followed by postdoctoral training at The Scripps Research Institute in La Jolla California. After joining the faculty at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Dr. Tapping led an NIH-funded research program focused on understanding microbial sensing and inflammatory responses of the innate immune system. Over this 15-year period, he also served as course director of Medical Immunology delivered annually to 130 first year medical students. Dr. Tapping has held several administrative titles in the College of Medicine including 5 years as the Associate Dean for Research. In 2017, Dr. Tapping moved to the Peoria campus where he develops and delivers immunology content across the tri-campus University of Illinois Chicago medical school curriculum.
