Reem A. Abu-Lughod

Reem Ali Abu-Lughod is a Professor of Criminal Justice at the California State University Bakersfield and has recently joined the Royal University for Women (RUW) in Bahrain as the Fulbright U.S. Scholar for the 2023-2024 academic year. Dr. Abu-Lughod’s professorship extends for almost two decades, holding various teaching and administrative positions, engaging in community outreach, and working at local, national, and international levels. Dr. Abu-Lughod was actively involved with the U.S. State Department, conducting cultural and religious sensitivity training workshops to troops being deployed to the MENA region. Furthermore, Dr. Abu-Lughod has facilitated workshops on leadership to female employees at her local law enforcement agency. At the international level, Dr. Abu-Lughod was a faculty member at the National Defense College (NDC) in Abu-Dhabi-UAE; facilitating graduate level course workshops and developed graduate level courses as part of the Strategic and Security Studies program at NDC. In her research experience, Dr. Abu-Lughod has published on various issues of conflict and is currently collaborating on research projects with the Ministry of Interior-Bahrain, focusing on raising awareness among school children about online exploitation. Away from her teaching and research, Dr. Abu-Lughod enjoys spending time and traveling with her husband and three children; Ghazal, Rama, and Ameer; exploring new learning activities and helping them discover their inner interests and hobbies.
