Naresh Chandra

Naresh Chandra is presently working as Director (Education) B. K. Birla College, Kalyan (M.S.) with effect from 1st June 2018 after retiring as Principal from the same institute, bringing a wealth of experience in higher education administration. He joined as Principal, BKBCK in Oct 1988 and worked till 31st May 2018 (except when he was on lien). He has also been helping and guiding other educational institutions in the pursuit of Higher Education. He has been tirelessly working for the cause of quality education in HEIs and students. In the past, Dr. Chandra has served as Pro Vice-Chancellor of the University of Mumbai twice from April 1997 to May 2000 (first term) and from April 2012 to May 2015 (second term). As Pro Vice-Chancellor, he played a pivotal role in introducing innovative and need-based academic programs / courses, fostering a strong relationship between the University and its affiliated colleges, and creating a culture of mutual trust and appreciation. He has been instrumental in enhancing the university administration, improving campus development, streamlining the examination system, and fostering student welfare. He has been Chairman / Member of several Expert Committees of Government / UGC / NAAC / Universities and has visited several colleges in the country. He has also visited several Universities / Institutions in UK, USA, Australia, China, Sri Lanka and South Africa for exchange of academic ideas. He was invited to attend International Visitor Leadership Program on 'Higher Education – Administration and Curriculum Development: A Project for India', at Washington and New York in November 2008. He has attended a five-day Workshop on 'Multidisciplinary Approach to University Leaders Development' held at Harvard University, USA in August 2012. He is passionate about research. 19 students have been awarded Ph.D. Degree under his guidance. He has worked on two Major Research Projects sanctioned by UGC and NMPB, New Delhi respectively. He has published several research papers in National and International journals. He was the Organizing Secretary of 102nd session of Indian Science Congress Association, held at University of Mumbai from 3 - 7 January 2015. He is a life member of National Academy of Sciences, India. His rich experience in academic administration and his contribution to the cause has helped him carve a niche for himself in the field of higher education.
