Mohd Rafi Yaacob

Mohd Rafi Yaacob hails from Kota Bharu, Kelantan. He is a Professor of Entrepreneurship at Universiti Malaysia Kelantan (UMK). He grew up and spent his happy formative years near Wakaf Che Yeh, situated at the outskirt of the capital of the state, where in those days was surrounded by the rice fields, fruit orchards, small rubber farms and bushes and had an early education in Sekolah Kebangsaan Kota and Sekolah Menengah Kota for secondary education, about two kilometres from his home. Later, pursued his study at the Foundation of Science at Universiti Malaya in 1985. He earned BSc (Geography) from Universiti Malaya in 1991, MBA from Middlesex University, UK, in 1996, and to quench the thirst for knowledge he pursued PhD at University of Newcastle, Australia in 2004 under the International Postgraduate Research Student (IPRS) from the said university, and completed his study in 2007. He earned Postgraduate Diploma in Entrepreneurship (PDGE) from University of Cambridge, UK in 2011. He began his academic career as a tutor at the Department of Geography, Universiti Malaya (1991-1994) and worked as lecturer at the Faculty of Business and Management, Universiti Teknologi MARA (1997-2008). During his career at Universiti Malaysia Kelantan, he held various positions - head department, deputy dean and dean of the Faculty of Entrepreneurship and Business. He was the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic and International) at the university, from 2018 -2021. He is a member of the Malaysian Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (MCILT) since 2017 and the Malaysian Nature Society (MNS). His research interests mainly in entrepreneurship, small business, strategic environmental management and green business. He actively involves in research, publishes articles in refereed journals, presents papers in conferences and has more than a dozen books under his belt. Apart from reading, writing and carpentering, he enjoys travelling, exploring least travelled places to see and spend of his time in peace and quiet of unspoilt nature and culture.
