Müfit Bahadir

Müfit Bahadir (1947), Univ.-Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Dr. agr. habil. Dr. h.c., studied chemistry at the Free University Berlin and Bonn University in Germany, received his PhD 1975 from Bonn University and his Assoc. Prof. from Munich Technical University. He became a full Professor of Environmental and Sustainable Chemistry at the Braunschweig Technical University in 1989. Since 1997, he is an honorary doctor and visiting professor at the Selcuk and Necmetting Erbakan Universities, Konya, Turkey. His research fields cover environmental chemistry and analyses, environmental pollution through industrial processes and products, pesticide chemistry and metabolism in soil and water, ecotoxicology, sustainable chemistry, renewable feed stocks, biodiesel and bio-lubricants. Since 2010, his research focused on R&D of sustainable water and wastewater management in developing countries. Müfit Bahadir chaired several international networks like MESAEP (Mediterranean Scientific Association for Environmental Protection), the Transformation Partnership Project “EMPOWER Tunisia – Emerging Pollutants in Water and Wastewater in Tunisia”, and the worldwide network for capacity building “EXCEED – Excellence Center for Development Cooperation – Sustainable Water Management in Developing Countries” that he founded with 40 partner universities and research centers from 20 countries on 4 continents. He was also visiting or guest professor at several universities: Selçuk University, Konya/Turkey; Al-Farabi University, Almaty/Kazakhstan; Gadjah Mada University, Yogyakarta/ Indonesia; Jordan University, Amman/Jordan; Universidad Federal de Santa Maria, Santa Maria RS/Brazil; Cairo University, Giza/Egypt. Müfit Bahadir holds several international awards for his scientific merits, i. a., Honorary Doctorate of Selçuk University Konya/Turkey; Honorary Medal of Mediterranean Scientific Association of Environmental Protection; Election to Full Member of Braunschweig Society of Sciences (Academy); UNESCO Award for Education for Sustainable Development 2006/2007 and 2011/2012; International Award of Applied Sciences, Turkey; Environmental Sciences Award, Akdeniz University Antalya/Turkey; Honorary Citizen Award, Konya/Turkey; and Honorary Member of Turkish Academy of Sciences (TÜBA), Ankara/Turkey. Müfit Bahadir retired 2016 from the Technical University Braunschweig, Braunschweig/Germany.
