Mark Martinelli

Mark Martinelli , CPA, CGMA, CAMS Mark spent nine years as Synchrony Financial’s Chief Audit Executive before announcing his retirement in 2022. Since that time, Mark has been an Executive Advisor to Synchrony assisting the CEO and the Board’s Audit Committee. He led the audit function following Synchrony’s 2014 IPO and spin-off from GE. Prior to Synchrony, Mark had a twenty-year career at HSBC where he was SEVP and Chief Auditor for North America. Prior to that he was President and Chief Executive Officer of HSBC.com and its Chief Financial Officer. Mark held executive positions in Finance, Strategy, Planning and Audit. Prior to joining HSBC, he was a Senior Manager with KPMG LLP. Mark kas been an Adjunct Professor at Baruch College. He served on the Audit Committee of New York Clearing House and was its Chairman from 2011 to 2013. Mark is an active board member and advisor for several academic institutions and professional associations, including Baruch College/Zicklin School of Business (Member, Stan Ross Accountancy Board), Baruch College Fund (Trustee, Audit Committee Vice Chair, Cyber Security Risk Sub-Committee Chair), St. John’s University, (Executive Advisory Board Member, Department of Accounting & Taxation/Advisor, Peter Tobin School of Business), and New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants (Internal Audit, Nominating & Future of Accounting Education committees). He is a member of the Editorial Review Board of the CPA Journal. Mark earned his B.S. in Accounting from St. John’s University. He lives in the Greater New York City area with his wife. Greater New York City Area.
