José A. D. Chemane

José Alberto Daniel Chemane is a passionate Applied Ethnomusicologist, accomplished drummer, percussionist, and dedicated educator hailing from Maputo, Mozambique. His lifelong fascination with Mozambican indigenous music and dance led him to become an active performer and advocate in the field. With a rich background, he has showcased his talents and shared his expertise through extensive performances and workshops both in Mozambique and abroad. Since 2011, he has served as a part-time lecturer specializing in African Music and Dance at the University of KwaZulu-Natal. In 2015, José played a pivotal role as a member of the Local Arrangement Committee for the 2015 ICTM-First International African Music Symposium hosted at UKZN. In 2018, he furthered his contributions by conducting a workshop presentation and performing with Ikusasa lethu at the PASMAE International Conference held in Seychelles. José's dedication to his craft and scholarly pursuits culminated in him presenting a paper at the ICTM's 47th World Conference in Legon, Ghana, in August of this year. He holds a Master of Arts Degree in Applied Ethnomusicology and is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Music at the University of KwaZulu-Natal.
