Jane Rousseau

Jane Rousseau , BSW, MSW, PhD, is an Associate Professor in the MSW Program at California State University (CSU), Stanislaus. She began her career in social work in 1993 working with Indigenous people and communities in Canada in the area of child welfare. Her career has been uniquely characterized by opportunities to engage in anti-oppressive approaches to policy and community practice. As the Deputy Director of Aboriginal Services for the British Columbia Ministry of Children and Family Services she provided support to Indigenous communities developing and delivering culturally relevant child welfare services. In 2014 she moved to the California Central Valley to begin teaching in the MSW Program at CSU Stanislaus. Her research is grounded in community-based action and research approaches that provide opportunities for community members to actively frame, engage and address the conditions and issues they are affected by. Since 2017 she has been involved in supporting the development of Basic Needs programming at CSU, Stanislaus.
