Heidi Given

Heidi Given is an equity coach for the Somerville Public Schools. She has over 35 years of early education experience as an early childhood instructional coach, professional developer, and mentor teacher in a variety of school settings, including: public and charter schools, Head Start, center-based programs, and a university lab school. She is certified as an early childhood teacher, a teacher of young children with special needs, and a transitional bilingual teacher. Heidi has been a lecturer at Lesley University and Tufts University, and has published and presented about anti-bias/antiracist education, documentation, classroom management, play, curriculum development and school culture. She enjoys the dynamic nature of the classroom, teaching and supporting the development of diverse learners - both children and adults. Heidi is a skilled facilitator of adult learning through coaching, professional learning community facilitation, and professional developing design and delivery. Her teaching stance is rooted in inclusive, anti-bias, and culturally responsive practices, which she embeds into rigorous, emergent and learner-centered curriculum, learning environments and professional growth opportunities.
