Denise Rueter

Denise Rueter is an Assistant Professor of Literacy at the University of Wisconsin in La Crosse beginning in the fall of 2023 and was a recent graduate from Louisiana State University with a PhD in Curriculum and Instruction with a focus on literacy. Prior to obtaining her PhD, Dr. Rueter worked in public schools for 15 years both as a classroom teacher and literacy coach for grades PreK-second. Dr. Rueter spent six years teaching kindergarten and reading intervention in North Carolina where she also received her master’s degree at North Carolina State University. Following this, Dr. Rueter relocated to New Orleans, LA where she spent nine years working at a charter school. There, she taught kindergarten, second grade, and reading intervention. After three years, Dr. Rueter transitioned to the administrative role of literacy coach and worked daily with teachers to develop their pedagogical knowledge and instructional practices in reading and writing.
