Dawn Adams-Harmon

Dawn Adams-Harmon obtained an Undergraduate degree in Marketing and Psychology from Montclair State University, received an MBA in Management from Fairleigh Dickinson University, and has completed her Doctorate in Management/Organizational Leadership. Her doctoral dissertation topic: Successful Ascent of Female Executives in the Pharmaceutical Industry: A Qualitative, Transcendental, Phenomenological Study; was published in ProQuest in 2018, and published in the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion International Journal/Special Edition (EDI) in November, 2020. Her current research on the Intersectionality of Race and Female Gender on STEM career ascendance was presented at the Academy of Management (AOM) for the 83rd annual meeting in Boston, MA: 8/23 conference; has been published in the SocioEconomic Challenges Journal from the Academic Research and Publishing UG ; presented at the Kean Annual Faculty Research 2023; and presented at the Qualitative Research in Organizations (QROM), January 2023. The other research published this year is entitled: “Motivational Book Reading: The Changes in Self-efficacy and Locus of Control in Minority Students: A Mixed Method Study” which was also approved in the Scientific Bulletin. Her professional career has been dedicated to over 30 successful years in the healthcare industry. She spent the majority of her time as a sales leader launching five sales teams and launching products in the New York Metropolitan marketplace with Pfizer, Schering Plough, and Merck. She also held training management positions and was a Director of Leadership Development at Pfizer, and developed a mentoring program that was executed nationally at Schering Plough and Merck. Dr. Adams-Harmon developed the 360-Degree Gender Sphere Awareness, Assessment, and Action Planning workshops and the 6 Success Strategies that create resilience to enable minority and female ascent, in the healthcare sector. She has lectured for International and Domestic audiences on the 360-Degree Gender Sphere and the 6 Strategies to Create Resilience workshops. The International and Domestic audiences include the Healthcare Business Women’s Association Mid-NJ; Northern HBA, Post-Doctoral Network (PDN), and IPharma. November, 2020 she spoke at the National Healthcare Businesswomen’s Association, and the Association for Talent Development (ATD) in 11/21. She presented her collaborative mixed method study at DSI in 11/21 on increasing self-efficacy and locus of control through motivational book reading. Recently, Dr. Adams-Harmon collaborated with Biogen Biotech and rolled out the 360-Degree Gender Sphere and 6 Success Strategies to Create Resilience Awareness, Assessment, and Action Planning workshops in its entirety. As a full-time faculty member of Kean University, Dr. Dawn Adams-Harmon prepares and mentors diverse students to be the leaders of tomorrow. Her current interests include researching intersectional studies of women and minority leaders, LGBTQ challenges in organizations, self-esteem in minorities, geographical effects of healthcare access on female minority ascendance, research on programs to increase leadership in minorities, and the 360-Degree Intersectionality Sphere. Dr. Harmon has been married for over 31 years and has two children, who are talented in various academic, sports, and artistic disciplines. Her son is in his psychiatry residency after graduating from Rowan Medical School (’23) and her daughter is graduating high school in May ’24 and will be attending Roger Williams University in Bristol RI to focus on obtaining her undergraduate and graduate degrees in elementary education and special education. Dr. Harmon has been able to balance an extremely successful career while being present and involved in her family and children’s lives. Her interests include skiing, dance, art, music, and she is an outdoor enthusiast.
