Cristobal Valdez

Cristobal “Cris” Valdez has served as the President of Richland Community College since August 2016. At Richland, Dr. Valdez has focused on expanded internal and external communications, leadership development, academic and non-academic assessment, strengthening academic and student affairs programs and strengthening diversity, inclusion, equity and belonging on campus and in the community. Since coming to Richland, the College has seen substantial growth in workforce development has and received in excess of $14M in public funding to the Enrich Workforce Training program as well as a $15.3M to develop a public-private regional Electric Vehicle training center including $30M in private investment in an emerging sustainable sector. Under Valdez’ leadership the college secured in excess of $8M in grant funding, including a collaborative with Decatur Memorial Hospital to increase both the overall number of and increase the diversity of trained allied health graduates and has oversaw the growth of Richland foundation’s assets to approximately $24 million. Valdez serves on several local, regional and national boards including the Decatur and Macon County EDC, Decatur Chamber of Commerce. He serves as a commissioner for the DEI Commission for AACC, the board of the Illinois Manufacturing Association and the Decatur Memorial Hospital Board.
