Andrea Gauthier

Andrea Gauthier (PhD) is a lecturer and research fellow in Education & Technology at the UCL IOE Knowledge Lab. Her research investigates how the design of visual media and digital technologies can influence (for better or worse) the ways in which people think, feel, and behave. Her current area of focus is on the design and use of interactive data-driven technologies (e.g., data-visualisation dashboards, AI-enabled decision aids) to support complex decision making and community interconnectedness in the domains of health, climate change, and sustainability. Before beginning her academic career, Andrea received professional training and industry experience as a biomedical communicator, illustrator, and technology designer. She has a Bachelor of Applied Arts in Illustration (2008) from Sheridan Institute of Technology, and a professional Master’s in Biomedical Communications (2012) and PhD in Medical Science (2018)—focusing on technology design in science and medical education—from the University of Toronto.
