Amy Sloan

Amy Sloan , Ed.D., is a lecturer in the department of Curriculum & Instruction. Dr. Sloan earned her B.A. as a University Scholar from Baylor University, her M.A. in English from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, and her Ed.D. in Postsecondary and Higher Education from Argosy University. She was named the top junior of her class at Baylor and was elected into Phi Beta Kappa. Dr. Sloan has been in higher education for almost two decades, with the majority of that time spent in postsecondary education primarily working within online education programs. Her past leadership positions include serving as the University Dean of the College of General Education and Psychology, a Director of Academic Operations, a Program Chair, and as an associate professor. With few exceptions, her postsecondary teaching and leadership positions have been within programs designed for non-traditional adult learners. Prior to transitioning into postsecondary education, Amy served several years as the Director of Grant Management for a charter secondary school district focusing on at-risk high school youth. Her research interests and publications include topics on effective student engagement and community within postsecondary education programs aimed at nontraditional learners, preparing students for leadership in a rapidly evolving educational system, first-year student success, mentoring in higher education, and the role of instruction in online education platforms. She also serves as the Co-Director of the IMPACT Mentoring Program.
