Introduction

Artificial Intelligence (AI) has crossed an important threshold with the development of prompt-dependent programs whose abilities outstrip previous iterations of AI. As a result, it has become necessary to examine how the use of AI in the educational setting can be utilized in the educative process, with coherence. Along with this, the delineation of ideas, frameworks, and models to address the ethical, societal, and disparate challenges that abound with the use of AI has become urgent with the rapid inclusion of AI into everyday life. Scholarship on AI must move beyond opaque showering of futuristic promise and its contradiction, fears that are dystopian and “fantastical” in nature. In moving from the general to the specific, broader ethical and societal concerns about AI and the questions of AI’s use in the learning context can be addressed with clarity, leading to identified practices that provide greater insight and understanding.

Objective

The objective of this book is to identify the latest empirical, conceptual, theoretical, and ethical "knowledges" that will assist teachers at all levels, in providing informed AI-situated classroom strategies as they relate to the domains of instruction, assessment, grading, and curriculum. Challenges pertaining to the ethical, societal, and disparate impact potential of AI will be addressed to assist teachers and administrators in making decisions that address these concerns. From this focus, the reader will be provided a comprehensive guide to emerging practice, assisting them as they continue to grow their knowledge and ability in pedagogical AI

Target Audience

The intended audience of this book is comprised of classroom teachers at all levels, who are looking to initiate or continue their use of AI in a coherent manner. This audience also includes higher education researchers, teacher educator instructors, teacher preparation program administrators, instructional designers, ethicists, and philosophers who have noted concerns about AI.
